Commissioner Acevedo brings to the Commission 16 years of experience as an advocate and voice for the differently-abled community of Los Angeles and Glendale. He is a 35 year resident of Los Angeles working with others to enable perspective on issues of disabled access as a fundamental civil right. He is a goal-oriented individual with very strong leadership capabilities. He has proven his ability to work well with staff, volunteers, and the board of directors. He has been involved in many community plans for various organizations in and around Los Angeles and Glendale. Mr. Acevedo obtained his degree in Criminal Justice in 2004. In addition, Mr. Acevedo is the founding member of Delta Sigma Omicron, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping students with disabilities and non-disabled students achieve and graduate from Glendale Community College. In April 2008, he was recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice for his dedication and hard work on behalf of America\'s victims of crime. He is a member of the Disabled Access Appeals Commission since September, 2008 first appointed by former Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, re appoint now by current Mayor Garcetti in April 2013 it is a great honor serving a City I truly love. With great pride I want everyone to know I want Los Angeles to be very accessible to all. I will make Los Angeles a place where everyone can enjoy reasonable accommodations in making Los Angeles accessible I want to thank Mayor Garcetti along with his staff I will make Los Angeles thee place where many around the world will see Los Angeles as a place to enjoy with and without a disability.
