ABOUT JORDANNE AMOS

Jordanne Amos is a PhD Candidate at the University of Toronto’s Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work whose research investigates the impact of anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism in child welfare services for mixed-race Black Inuit populations living on Inuit homelands in Canada. Using both qualitative and quantitative research methods, Jordanne explores how systemic inequities, transnational migration, and the commodification of Black experiences within majority Inuit territories shape culturally relevant service delivery for mixed race Black Inuit youth and young adults. Her work prioritizes the archiving and documentation of Black and Indigenous histories in Canada, illuminating how race, culture, and identity intersect in services deeply influenced by colonialism and how these histories can inform future policy and practice.Alongside her doctoral research, Jordanne serves as an Advanced Practice Clinical Leader at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), where she provides strategic clinical leadership for mental health and addictions programming. She supports interprofessional teams in advancing patient and family centered care, implementing evidence based therapeutic supports, and expanding access to care for priority populations, including those facing systemic barriers to mental health and addictions services. Her leadership supports the development and implementation of mental health and addictions programs, service pathways, and culturally informed interventions that address the needs of patients, families, and communities.Jordanne’s dual identity as a scholar and a social work practice lead allows her to bridge research and practice. Her academic insights inform her strategic planning and implementation work, while her frontline leadership offers grounded perspective for her scholarship. This integration strengthens her commitment to creating equitable, culturally responsive systems of care that address both immediate service needs and long term systemic change.In addition to her public sector leadership, Jordanne maintains a private psychotherapy practice, providing individual therapy to populations that are often harder to reach. She incorporates culturally relevant therapeutic modalities into her work, ensuring that care is trauma informed, anti-oppressive, and tailored to the lived experiences of her clients. Across research, clinical leadership, and direct service, Jordanne’s mission is clear: to challenge inequities, amplify marginalized voices, and build systems that uphold dignity, safety, and belonging for all.
