ABOUT JORDAN WATHEN

I\'m not someone who always knew they wanted to go into technology. My journey to finding a career in software engineering has been unique but I wouldn\'t change it, as it\'s helped to shape the person that I am today. I caught the coding bug in 2018, and started a Software Engineering Degree Apprenticeship at Accenture later that year. There\'s been no stopping me ever since.I graduated first in my year from the Degree Apprenticeship, receiving- The Dean\'s Prize & Outstanding Achievement Awards from the University - A Certificate of Merit at the Technology Industry Apprentice Gold Awards from the accreditation body - The Apprentice of the Year 2021 - Tech Prodigy Award from AccentureFor my undergraduate synoptic project, I designed and developed CODI - a web application to facilitate live, remote & hybrid programming lab sessions, for higher education and industry training. Following exceptional feedback and an award from my university, I proceeded to prepare a conference paper on CODI. After a successful submission, I was honoured to be the lead, and presenting, author of the paper at EDUCON 2022. Later this year, I’ll begin a part-time MSc in Software Engineering at Oxford University. I’m looking forward to the new challenge, and the opportunity to accelerate my development and understanding, whilst progressing with my career. What I love about software is the continuous evolution of the field. I\'m especially interested in contributing to Tech4Good and education-based projects. I know a career in software will sustain me because it allows me to continually challenge myself, whilst applying my key strengths: logical problem solving; empathy; and creativity.I am very passionate about Inclusion and Diversity in both a personal and professional capacity. I want to contribute to positive change so everyone has equal opportunities to contribute, share their ideas and perspectives, and be heard.I\'ve already found my feet, now I\'m finding my voice. This is just the beginning - I\'m really excited to see what comes next!
