About Jony Sheynin

Dr. Jony Sheynin obtained his Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers University, where he followed empirical and computational approaches to study the association between maladaptive behaviors and anxiety vulnerability. He then completed a post-doctoral training in the Department of Psychiatry at University of Michigan, where he used functional MRI (fMRI) to study neural alterations in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. Dr. Sheynin is currently a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Texas A&M University (Houston, TX). He conducts research on psychopathologies and neurological conditions, focusing on the following domains:(1) Studying neural patterns using fMRI;(2) Studying decision-making patterns using computer tasks;(3) Studying the cognitive mechanisms that underlie maladaptive processes using computational modeling.In additional to his research activities, Dr. Sheynin is invested in leadership development, with a focus on teaching and mentoring. He graduated from Texas A&M Faculty Mentoring Academy (2023), as well as the Leaders in Academic Medicine Program (LAMP) organized by College of Medicine and Mays Business School at Texas A&M University (20••••25 cohort). Dr. Sheynin currently works in the Graduate & Professional School as a Faculty Aspiring Leadership Program fellow, on the project “Grad School Boot Camp 2.0” to support individuals who are interested in graduate studies.
