Lead a multi-disciplinary agile squad of ten consisting of data engineers/wranglers, managers and architect to form a squad focusing on the ingestion and preparation of multiple datatypes into Genomics England’s secure research environment. Oversee maintaining current BAU work whilst onboarding new/existing data pipelines into the squad’s remit, automating existing pipelines and a large reform of our current data infrastructure into a single operable data layer (still ongoing). Develop a roadmap, strategy and vision for the product alongside stakeholders and the squad. Use the strategy to generate sagas and set a clear agenda and direction, which is reviewed and updated on a quarterly basis to match service-level OKRs. Hold monthly 1:1s with squad members to listen to suggestions and help facilitate skill and career development. Used this information during sprint planning to combine hitting OKRs with the squads’ personal development goals, resulting in significant long-term returns and a highly motivated team that was able to achieve more with each quarter. Identify single-person dependencies in existing work, balance product priorities to allow for upskilling on and the elimination of these dependencies. Collaborate with expert specialists from multiple teams. Use their expertise to make decisions based on the organisations priorities and resources and negotiated these results with senior stakeholders. Manage stakeholder relationships to negotiate quarterly OKRs for the team. Negotiate a balance between new projects and the removal of tech debt. When short on resource, negotiate with other product managers in the service to balance load and achieve OKRs.
