ABOUT JON ELPHICK
I am a respected and dedicated chartered engineer, who has a track record of delivering value in complex and challenging environments. I combine my instinctively holistic worldview, with excellent technical, communication, analytical and emotional intelligence skills, to regularly achieve results that exceed expectations. I have 25 years’ experience in control systems and railways (including heavy rail, metros and trams). I am excited to be part of WSP’s experienced Rail Advisory group, where we can draw on WSP\'s vast expertise to help clients successfully employ a whole system approach to delivering real value to passengers and railways through digital transformation and wise investment in people, technology and information. Over the years, I have developed strong relationships with several major transport organisations, including Hitachi Rail, Network Rail, BAA, London Underground, New York City Transit and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM). I have made significant technical and leadership contributions to the Victoria line control centre systems concept design; Network Rail’s remote condition monitoring strategy; Hitachi’s successful £7.5bn Intercity Express Project (IEP) bid; the independent UK Rail Value for Money Study; UK Rail Traffic Management Systems; Network Rail’s early Digital Railway plans; and the Manchester Metro Tram Management System. Most recently, I led the successful type testing and acceptance of Hitachi Rail\'s Class 80x IEP trains, the Class 385 trains for ScotRail, and the Class 803 trains for Lumo. I also masterminded the development of the Hitachi Rail’s Rolling Stock Cybersecurity Strategy. Over the last 3 years, I delivered the integration of the Hitachi Rail’s global Test and Validation function, building strong and productive relationships across the world, during the COVID pandemic.Specialties: Systems Thinking, Systems Design/Engineering, Railway Command and Control Systems, Cybersecurity, Digital Transformation, Remote Monitoring and Asset Management, Emotional Intelligence, Operations Management, Project/Bid Management, Enabling Collaboration and Communication, Management of Complexity.
