ABOUT JON DEREN

I have a great appreciation for the transformation that takes places when people step outside of comfort zones. I believe such unique experiences build character and inspire people to become the best versions of themselves. As a child, my parents encouraged me to step outside of my own comfort zone and attend summer camp. It is there that I developed new interests, passions, and friendships that changed my life for the better. I didn’t know it then, but the values instilled in me at Camp Manitou (as a camper and counselor) gave me a foundation of confidence to take a career risk later in life and turn the dream of purchasing camp into a reality. Like most entrepreneurs, I am motivated by the challenge of running a successful business. However, my relationship with Camp Manitou is personal. It’s more than a business to me. As an owner, a director, and a parent to three children of my own, it is my responsibility to ensure that the programs offered in our camps are innovative, value-based, and enriching enough to inspire our future leaders. I am incredibly proud of the staff who pour their hearts and souls into supporting our mission - creating one-of-a-kind camp experiences that are deeply rooted in tradition, leadership, team competition, tripping and outdoor adventures.
