About Jonathan Permar

With over 14 years of experience in education, I am passionate about making better humans. I want to empower students to become active and informed individuals who can contribute to their communities and the world. As the Senior Director of Social Studies & Civic Engagement at Guilford County Schools, I lead a new and expanded office that integrates civic engagement across the K-12 curriculum, oversees district-wide voter education programs, and supports the professional learning for over 350 social studies teachers. We are focused on creating quality instruction in social studies classrooms that are driven by inquiry and action.

   Direct the work of a new, expanded office to include an integrated approach K-12 for civic engagement• Oversee district-wide programming on voter education spanning 27 schools and impacting nearly students• Establish professional learning priorities in collaboration with team leads for 350+ dedicated social studies teachers• Supervise student leadership and service-learning programming in the district, including Service-Learning Diploma program• Execute contracts with external partners to provide goods and services that support planned programming• Manage district-wide student leadership opportunities including Service-Learning Youth Council and Superintendent\'s Student Advisory Council• Develop and monitor departmental budget of up to $1.2M• Develop and review Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for instructional resources within and cross-departmentally.
