About Jonathan MacHado

I am a Research Study Assistant at Columbia University Irving Medical Center with a background in biotechnology and bioinformatics. I am passionate about advancing patient care and discovery through clinical research. My path has been shaped by science and storytelling. I began as a professional chef before pursuing research, a transition that sharpened my creativity, precision, and discipline while fueling my interest in nutrition, health, and biomedical discovery.At LaGuardia Community College, I graduated as part of the CUNY Class of 2025 Valedictorian/Salutatorian Honors and was privileged to serve as the Commencement Speaker. These moments reflected academic achievement and the resilience and leadership I cultivated as President of Phi Theta Kappa’s Alpha Theta Phi Chapter and a President’s Society Ambassador. I have also been honored as an NIH Bridges Scholar and a Model Senator with the Edward T. Rogowsky Internship Program, where I learned to navigate the intersection of science, civic engagement, and public policy.Now at Columbia, I contribute to clinical research teams by supporting trial protocols, managing study documentation, coordinating patient visits, and assisting with specimen workflows. This role has given me a front-row seat to the collaboration, rigor, and compassion that drive breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care.I am pursuing a Bachelor’s in Bioinformatics at Hunter College. I aspire to a career as a Clinical Research Coordinator and future medical researcher, where I can merge my technical expertise with my commitment to patient advocacy and community impact.
