Experience
Staff Production Engineer, Database Platform
Nov 2021 — Present
Maintained \"KateSQL\", our Ruby on Rails control plane for managing thousands of MySQL databases on GKE. Championed the development of our self-service MySQL upgrade tooling, allowing us to upgrade thousands of MySQL databases and servers safely with zero downtime and minimal user intervention, all during our busiest time of the year. This tooling was built into our Ruby on Rails-based MySQL management platform. Mentor junior team members in MySQL, Kubernetes, and Linux, helping them grow their skills and become more effective contributors to the team. Wrote a MySQL GRANT statement parser and generator, allowing us to implement a much richer user permissions model. As Team Lead, I\'m heavily involved in most technical discussions about the Platform my team provides. I create and update our roadmap, work with leads from other teams to ensure we meet their current and future needs, and am a stakeholder for projects across many areas. I leverage my extensive knowledge of Kubernetes and Linux to guide the team in making architectural decisions that improve the platform\'s performance, scalability, reliability, and capabilities. I\'ve worked hard to consolidate and simplify our systems while ensuring our platform provides our users\' desired features.
