WORK HISTORY
Cycling Tour Guide on Maui @Veloguide
I grew up in rural Oregon and started cycle touring 1977 then racing in 1987. I have done more than races and still ride over miles per year. Now retired and living on Maui it is my goal to enjoy island time riding up and down the volcano with friends and visiting cyclists. Anyone traveling to Maui is welcome to join me for a spectacular ride in paradise. Riding on Maui is tough. The trade winds blow every day and most routes include a ton of climbing (up to feet on Haleakala). However, a well planned ride can finish with an exhilarating descent and a tailwind home. Like life, the weather here has a rhythm and as long as you are flexible you can find a spectacular ride almost every day. Maui also allows you to get off the grid and leave the rat race behind. If you know your way around, it is possible to escape the tourist areas in exchange for a riding experience found no where else on earth. Only on Maui can you ride from sea level to over feet in 36 miles. It is a very large island with hundreds of miles of paved roads that nearly all have incredible ocean or mountain views. Riding here will change your perspective and make it very hard to go home. Live long, be pono and ride lots! “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one\'s lifetime.” ~ Mark Twain
