About Jonathan Kaplan

Jonathan E. Kaplan is a versatile and savvy communications strategist, writer, and advocate with deep experience in public affairs and policy communications to position and elevate issues and people. His writing has appeared in leading publications. At the Open Society Foundations, he worked to explain the foundations\' work to select audiences and to defend the organization\'s reputation and brand against disinformation and antisemitism. He previously served as a communications director and speechwriter for senior leaders in the U.S. Department of State and Congress where he worked on US foreign policy issues, including protecting and defending the department\'s budget against spending cuts and persuading the Senate to ratify a landmark arms control agreement. He worked as a journalist for The Hill newspaper and his freelance work has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Politico, and Foreign Policy. Earlier in his career, he served as a legislative assistant and communications director to two members of Congress. He is the founder and author of RIDING WITH, a newsletter and podcast about professional cycling and the media, culture, and business.
