About Jonathan Tauber
Jon serves as Deputy General Counsel for SERC, where he provides strategic leadership and direction for the Enforcement and External Affairs teams. In this capacity, he oversees enforcement legal matters, identifying critical trends and best practices to mitigate risks to the reliability and security of the bulk power system. Jon also directs SERC’s External Affairs team, leading state outreach and engagement on complex energy policy issues with state legislators, executive agencies, and regulatory bodies.Prior to joining SERC, Jon was the Director of Strategic Policy and Advocacy at Consumers Energy. In this role, he led the company’s regulatory policy team and oversaw the development of state and federal regulatory and legislative strategies. His work focused on pivotal industry shifts, including renewable energy siting and development, distributed energy programs, emerging technologies, and decarbonization initiatives.Before his tenure at Consumers Energy, Jon served as Managing Senior Corporate Counsel at the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). In this role, he managed legal activities for federal regulatory and stakeholder initiatives, focusing on wholesale energy market development, long-term transmission planning, and regional resource adequacy.Jon began his career at the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO), where he served as an attorney examiner and administrative law judge presiding over gas, electric, and power siting proceedings. He was later appointed as the Ohio Federal Energy Advocate, leading an office dedicated to advocating for the state’s retail electric customers before federal regulatory agencies.Jon holds a Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University.
