ABOUT JONATHAN ROE
After graduating from Leeds University (1985 - Ba. hons Geography) I spent the next 8 years working in voluntary organisations in drugs counselling and homelessness in Hull and South London before a two week spell in a Primary school in Brixton convinced me that childhood learning was the thing for me.PGCE (Hull University in 1993) led to a first teaching post at St James Primary then Gillshill Primary before a spell working for the Diocese of York working with Hull based voluntary organisations working with community based learning in Hull and making the case for 3rd sector involvement.2006 back into full-time teaching at St John of Beverley RC Primary (Beverley) where I became Assistant Headteacher.2012 I became the Headteacher of Ings Primary in Hull. Have led the school team and the school from \"inadequate\" to \"good\" whilst maintaining a focus on parents, community, cooperative working and giving children a lifelong love of outdoor learning, growing stuff and cooking it.In 2016 a group of 4 Co-operative Foundation Trust schools formed Yorkshire and Humber Co-operative Learning Trust (now rebranded Thrive). The Trust is now 10 schools in Hull, 3 secondaries and 7 primaries. From Thrive’s inception I worked in primary improvement and Executive Headship, and CEO for five years until retiring in August 2025.I am currently a consultant for the National Governance Association, and the Chair of Coop Schools.
