Jonathan Pearce is a principal research scientist leading the contact thermometry technical area of the NPL Temperature group. His main interests are- realising and maintaining temperature standards to ensure practical traceability of measurements to the SI unit of temperature, the kelvin- developing fit-for-purpose measurement systems; developing numerical and analytical models of physical systems- assessment of measurement uncertainty and compliance with quality standards e.g. ISO 17025- specialist metallurgy and phase changes- providing robust, practical contact thermometry solutions for process measurement and control to a range of stakeholders across government, industry and academia.He is experienced at winning and delivering contract R&D across a wide range of high-value physical disciplines, as well as assembling and leading larger collaborative projects such as the European project \'EMPRESS\'- enhancing process efficiency in high value manufacturing applications - which he currently coordinates: currently represents the UK on two working groups of the BIPM Consultative Committee for Thermometry (CCT), concerned with uncertainties and dissemination of the SI kelvin, and sits on the Institute of Physics Instrument Science and Technology (ISAT) Committee.He has published over 120 technical papers on a wide range of applied physics including temperature metrology, modelling, and low temperature was recently elected a Fellow of the Institute of Physics.Jonathan\'s research interests include thermocouples, resistance thermometry, temperature measurement and control in harsh environments, solidification of binary metal alloys, and operational research (optimisation) techniques.Analysis tools used include pencil & paper, Comsol Multiphysics, Excel, FORTRAN, Maple, Matlab, R
