Founded in 2012, Baseline is a Granville Island-based payments consultancy. We consult with companies on their accounts receivable and accounts payable; how do they get paid, and how do they pay others?Piecing together the puzzle, we suggest and offer solutions and provide all ongoing consultation and support for our nearly clients across North America. Our client portfolio is focused on law, accounting, construction and building supply, the marine industry, trucking, logistics and hospitality.Baseline also owns its own EFT-focused payments platform, Jetpay, which has helped merchants speed up traditionally slow payment methods, such as cheques.

ABOUT JONATHAN MCDONALD
When people ask me what I do, I say I\'m a journalist.Technically, I haven\'t been one since 2017 - the year I left my nearly 25-year career in the newspaper (yes, there were still newspapers in 2017!) industry. But since 2019, I\'ve helped lead a company that, ostensibly, has nothing to do with journalism. But everything to do with the best parts of journalism.Baseline Payments is a fintech. We were originally a payments consultancy - consulting with our nearly clients about their receivables and payables, helping them get paid faster and more securely and addressing everything from tedious reconciliation to cash allocation to speeding up painful DSO. Then we built our own platforms that could help merchants, particularly those in the B2B space, improve how they run their back offices. Save time. Save money. Often both. The point is, what always resonated for me as a journalist - showing curiosity about others, asking questions, asking more questions, getting the pieces of the puzzle and then reassembling the puzzle better than you found it - was what I got at Baseline. Payments isn\'t easy. It\'s a crowded, sometimes bottom-feeding industry. But I like the way we go about it. We get to know people and their businesses. We nurture relationships. Once we\'re working together, we provide all support and all ongoing consultation. The whole thing is a great way to do business - not just win business and retain business, but do business. So, naturally, the people officer part of my job is great fun. All the internal relationships - our partners, our client success and sales and software development teams. So many clients. And, on occasion, someone who says,\"You\'re in payments? Can we chat?\"
