ABOUT JONATHAN M.

I serve as the first Fire Marshal for the City of Derby, Kansas. With 25 years of diverse experience in Fire, EMS, Law enforcement, and Emergency Management I operate as a high-performing, creative, pragmatic, budget friendly program creator and manager. I have a keen eye for fraud, waste and abuse. I’m an avid world traveler having worked in several locations around the globe, I navigate the planet quite freely. I continually strive to improve myself and perfect the craft of emergency response while maintaining a healthy balance of pride, tradition, and safety. I\'m ambitious, meticulous, reliable, and kind. I enjoy finding creative solutions to difficult problems. It\'s my belief that fire departments and the individuals who exist within the organization make up an ecosystem of performance. As with any ecosystem, there is a balance required in order for the effective sustainability of the organization. There are a number of components which affect a departments\' internal ecosystem. Components such as: communication, information, fairness, common human respect, opportunity, and pragmatic deliberate honest leadership. My future goals are to progress my career towards teaching, instructing, leading, managing and counseling. When I’m not working, I’m often volunteering, writing, reading, kayaking, scuba diving, managing youth programs, site-seeing, and trying to save the world.
