As a captain and instructor for Horizon Air, Jon operates passenger carrying flights on behalf of Alaska Airlines and teaches new hire, recurrent, and upgrade pilot candidates. In both environments, Jon promotes the importance of safety while ensuring each operation is in compliance with all company procedures and federal regulations. Recently, Jon began volunteering his time as a pilot mentor, providing guidance for crewmembers seeking a path forward during their initial transition to the airline. Transport passengers throughout the Pacific Northwest United States and Canada on behalf of Alaska Airlines. Lead pre departure briefings and coordinate with dispatch/maintenance/operations personnel to maintain on time performance. Conduct CAT ILS/RNAV RNP instrument approaches utilizing Heads Up Display (HUD). Train and evaluate pilots in diverse platforms including a Flight Training Device (FTD) and Level D Full Flight Simulator. Evaluate pilot knowledge of procedural flows, aircraft systems, emergency procedures, maneuvers, and aircraft handling. Conduct post-check ride “LOFT” exercises. Emphasis on diversions, no flap landings, cancelled approaches in icing conditions and uncontained engine fire/diversion training. Utilize Flight Training Management Software (FTMS) to track student progress, enter grades, and share instructor notes. Participate in annual Continuing Qualification Training (CQT) events to review new training curriculum and updated AQP Standards. Served as a First Officer from 20••••18.
