ABOUT JONATHAN BISHOP

As CEO of Cornerstone Academy Trust, I lead seven primary schools across Devon - Broadclyst, Westclyst, Monkerton, Yeo Valley, Countess Wear, Clyst Heath, and Marpool - and serve as strategic lead for the Cornerstone English Hub, supporting schools across the South West. Our Trust operates as One School on Seven Campuses, underpinned by a vision for innovative, collaborative, and digitally rich learning. Every pupil and member of staff uses a Microsoft Surface device, with a Teams-based platform enabling personalised, project-based learning across sites. I have led significant school improvement initiatives, opened two Free Schools, and currently lead a reading project within a DfE Priority Area. All Cornerstone schools are Microsoft Showcase Schools and were recognised as DfE EdTech Demonstrators during the Covid period.I was appointed a DfE RISE Advisor in April 2025, supporting schools and trusts across England in our shared vision to raise standards and embed evidence-informed practice in our schools. It’s a role that I’m both passionate about and enjoy doing, as I have the privilege to work in partnership with colleagues from across the sector to improve outcomes for all children. My career began at Broadclyst Primary School, where I progressed from class teacher to Headteacher in 2010, pioneering media-rich classrooms and creative curricula. I’m especially proud of our Global Enterprise Challenge, which has connected schools in over 20 countries to foster collaboration and innovation. I’m committed to developing teachers through ITT & ECT programs, partnering with Teaching School Hubs, and leading English, Behaviour, Computing, and Science Hubs. Recently, I established a Digital Skills and AI Hub, collaborating with local Trusts to support schools regionally through the RISE Universal offer. Beyond school, I work with Heatree Activity Centre and Farms for City Children, helping young people broaden their horizons. I’m passionate about technology-enhanced learning, building strong communities, and supporting leaders and teachers to excel.
