About Jonathan Alcineus
Hey there! My name is Jonathan Alcineus. I am a rising fourth-year student at Florida State University pursuing a double major in Statistics (B.S.) and Computer Science (B.A.) with a minor in Mathematics. I am an Orange Park native, born to Haitian immigrants. My experiences as a first-generation Haitian American ignited my passion for advocacy and education. After learning the role of technology in providing education and accessibility to better the lives of a wide range of people, I became hooked. Since beginning my pursuit of designing technology for equitable access in 2021, some of the things I have done include: Gained three certifications learning programming languages such as JavaScript and Python Developed a topic of interest with a team to propose a machine-learning method to classify patients with Alzheimer’s and without Alzheimer’s and presented our proposal to experts within the fields of statistics and computer science Met with a UF law professor and accomplished researchers to organize a virtual workshop with another Florida-based youth organization on the discussion of data privacy rights and predictive policing Worked on an open records request with the PASCO coalition and Encode Justice’s U.S. Chapter Projects Director; compiled a list of ten priority counties to focus on based on racial demographics and the presence of surveillance technology Designed a Python program to collect data from the Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) website and format the data into a more accessible and organized format Whether working with people with disabilities to create technology that meets their accessibility needs, implementing machine learning algorithms to predict neurological diseases, or analyzing educational policies within the AI landscape, I aspire to explore the use of technology to augment the human experience.
