Assistant Professor (Tt) in Applied Structural Geology @Lamar University

View department →

My current research at Lamar University centers on exploring and characterizing Critical Minerals (CMs). Before this position, my primary focus so far was on gold deposits within the Pan-African North Equatorial Fold Belt (PANEFB), employing a multidisciplinary approach that integrates optical petrography, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray fluorescence (XRF) mapping, electron microprobe analysis, whole-rock geochemistry, geochronology, and isotope analysis, Structural geology, Geographical Information Systems (GIS).In addition to my research, I teach Structural Geology, Physical Geology, Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology, Economic Geology, and Geochemistry.

ABOUT JONAS DIDERO TAKODJOU WAMBO

Research on Precambrian Geology and associated Ore deposits and mainly interested in unraveling the crustal-scale evolution of mountain ranges and the influence of deformation on the formation of ore deposits in complex magmatic-hydrothermal mineralizing and alteration processes, associated with the formation of massive sulfide deposits, porphyry Cu-Mo-Au systems, and Sn-W-Mo-Au systems including their related skarn systems, as well as IOA (Iron Oxide Apatite) and IOCG (Iron Oxide Copper-Gold, REY, U) systems. To do so, I use a wide range variety of lab and field techniques including (1) Field mapping-Structural geology and fluid circulation applied to ore deposit genesis.(2) Co-located optical petrography, scanning electron microscopy (backscatter imaging, X-ray spectroscopy, and diffraction), mapping XRF; electron microprobe analysis; whole-rock geochemistry.(3) isotope geochemistry and Geochronology.(4) Remote sensing and modeling-Mineral exploration.Research interests include- Metallogenesis of rare metal-rich alkaline rock suites in central Africa (Cameroon-Nigeria-Gabon): implications for critical mineral exploration- Pan-African orogeny and associated ores deposits extending from western Africa into northeastern Brazil- Recent advancements involving the use of remote sensing and machine learning for mineral exploration, geological mapping, advanced Geo-hazard modeling, environmental/vegetation monitoringPh.D. thesis on: «Petrogenesis, structurogenesis, and metallogenic potential of Precambrian formations of Ngoura-colomines (Eastern region of Cameroon)».
