ABOUT IAN JONES

Head of IT Services, having worked across Education IT in the North West since 2005, currently leading a team of 17 in the support of over users across 11 schools in a growing and ambitious Multi Academy Trust.Have moved through various positions into my current role, starting as an IT technician back in 2005, and so have garnered a wide library of knowledge through the years.Over the past few years, I have implemented and led on a multi-million pound Trust-wide refresh programme across the entire Trust, covering all infrastructure aspects. As well as a refresh of the existing sites, I have also worked alongside the DfE and third party contractors in the design, implementation, and onboarding of multiple brand new free school builds.Through my career I have experienced a wide array of technologies and gained extensive knowledge in the following (currently relevant) areas- Windows Server 2016/2019/2022- Windows Clients- Windows Server Roles - AD, DNS, DHCP, NPS, CA, RDS, SCCM/MECM, WDS, Group Policy - Azure/Entra, Endpoint Manager/Intune- Office 365 - including Teams, Power Platform (Automate, Apps, BI)- Apple School Manager/Apple Configurator- Server/storage hardware - Dell EMC PowerEdge, PowerVault, HP ProLiant, Synology- Network hardware - Cisco Catalyst, Cisco Meraki, HP ProCurve, HP Aruba - I am extremely comfortable with (and prefer using) the CLI of both Cisco and HP for switch configuration- Wireless hardware - Ruckus, Aruba, Cisco, Meraki- Other - Arbor, SIMS, Smoothwall UTM, Cunninghams/BioStore cashless, Inventry, and every other niche bit of software schools have need of!Where possible, I am often eager to implement bespoke solutions at low cost for schools, be that automation via PowerShell, Python, Ansible, etc. on the infrastructure side, or PowerApps for Absence/HR/Admin processes on the end user side.
