About Jonah Bonesteel

Analytics is action. I have seen this catchphrase to be overwhelmingly true throughout my time working with data. Whether in the classroom, in the workplace, or on the baseball field, witnessing the power of data-driven results is a brilliant thing. This is what I love about data and why I am a data scientist. In my undergraduate studies at NC State, I served as a Teacher’s Assistant in the Business Analytics Honors Program. In this role, I met with students to reinforce statistical concepts and assisted students with coding questions. Outside of the classroom, I worked on the NC State Baseball Analytics team, where I utilized R and Tableau to create scouting reports and further analysis used frequently by the team. In my summer internship at Advance Auto Parts, I harnessed tools such as Python, SQL, and Power BI to create Sentiment Analysis Models to understand customer and store needs better. This experience allowed me to develop expertise with Python libraries such as NLTK and Scikit-Learn. I further built on this experience in my Senior Practicum Project with Syneos Health, working on a team that modeled employee churn rates using logistic regression and Random Forests. I recently graduated from NC State’s Institute for Advanced Analytics and am now a data scientist at Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio in the Decision Sciences Group.
