ABOUT JONAH MARTINEZ GOLDSTEIN

Jonah Martinez Goldstein is a researcher and communications consultant who graduated from Williams College in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He most recently worked for the New York State Education Department and New York Commissioner of Education as a communications consultant. There he led a strategic community outreach initiative that involved 15.5k participants and 12 focus group forums of over 200 New Yorkers. He co-authored and presented the Department\'s critical 2023 report on graduation measures based on his research. He has also worked as a Research Associate at Brown University\'s Annenberg Institute, where he organized a successful effort to win and execute year-2 funding for a $1.6 million flagship research study implemented in schools serving over 1.5 million students. At Brown he also managed 4 senior organizational partners and authored all study copy and communications. Previously Jonah worked at the Learning Policy Institute in Palo Alto, CA, where he advised on and edited 2 published reports, served as the project coordinator for a qualitative research study of 10 California community advocacy groups, and led a national testing study for senior staff. Finally, during his time at the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s EdRedesign Lab he led a study into student mental health trends and revised the Lab\'s reports for publication. As a speaker he has twice taken his expertise to the SXSW EDU Conference in Austin, TX where he spoke in 2019 and again in 2022 as a headlining speaker for the panel \"Systemic Barriers in Higher Ed,\" which he organized with Dr. Anthony Jack. He also led the New York State Education Department\'s 2023 conference presentation to the Blue Ribbon Commission on Graduation Measures. As a researcher, he has focused on different examples of alternative classroom practice, chiefly different assessment regimes and how they influence curriculum. He has also consulted on testing policy for the New York State Board of Regents, and serves on the New York State Education Department\'s Performance-Based Learning and Assessment Networks Advisory Board.
