ABOUT JON HICKS
Began my engineering life as an apprentice toolmaker at Fine Tubes. Then worked in their Inspection department using a range of eddy current, ultrasonic and visual inspection processes. After 7 years I left Fine Tubes and joined Kawasaki Precision Machinery where I set and operated a variety of CNC machines using Allen Bradley, Siemens and Fanuc controls on their Staffa motor case line. The year saw me take a massive career change when I left KPM and enrolled at the College of St Mark and St John where I studied for a BEd Hons degree in Secondary D&T as a mature student. Four years later I graduated with a 2.1 and began my teaching career.It took me ten years to burn out in the classroom and in 2014 I quit teaching and returned to engineering. Gary, Mike and Dave put their trust in me and ive been at GMD ever since. Hopefully I wont have any more mid-life career change moments.
