After a long and successful career in industry in the field of electro-pneumatic control systems, I made the decision to return to full-time education to re-train as a teacher. Having gained a first class honours degree from the University of Leicester I embarked on a two year program of teacher training to become a college lecturer. My specialism and passion is in improving the basic literacy and numeracy skills of young people, many of whom have been let down by the compulsory education sector. I am the living embodiment of the importance of second chances. My balance of \'real-world\' experience gives me a rare level of empathy with work-based and vocational learners, and this experience, along with academic credibility and a highly professional manner, gives me the ability to get learners to engage with what is, for many, a dry and boring topic. I am a skilled and creative teacher, graded as \'good\' or \'outstanding\' by both OfSTED and my peers. I am a specialist in the field of behaviour management. Providing cost effective, results driven solutions to requirements, experienced in liaison with external awarding bodies, external and freelance assessors and senior managers. A creative, empathetic and effective educational leader. Experienced people manager in education with zero staff turnover in five years of line management. Dedicated to finding the \"win/win\".
