ABOUT JON BALYEAT
I am a Biomedical Engineering student at UConn, focusing on Biomaterials & Tissue Engineering. Despite my concentration, I have a wide variety of research interests outside of it such as using alginate in eco friendly fruit coatings, bioreactors for mass producing algae, using liposomes as a vector for bipolar medication and placental cell culture. Within my concentration, I am mainly interested in regenerative medicine and implantable bioelectronics, both of which I utilize my CAD and Circuit building abilities; I have specific interests in bone tissue and neurons. I have a particular passion for synthetic biology as I aim to translate lab discoveries into practical solutions—ultimately pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and founding my own lab. Outside of my field, you will find me composing music, making 3D animations or building intricate fictional worlds, creative outlets that keep my problem-solving abilities fresh, logical and imaginative.
