About Joie Ning

I am an Immigration Counselor at Asian Americans for Equality.I graduated from at the Macaulay Honors College at John Jay College with a Bachelor\'s in Inter-Asian Political Studies. My areas of academic focus revolve around refugees and immigrants in and from Asian nations, the impacts of historical imperialism on modern East Asia, and East-West relations. The interdisciplinary nature of my degree has thus allowed me to study all at once sociology, legal studies, history, criminology, and political science, and I have developed skills in client-facing work as well as advocacy and research.You can reach out to me at j••••••••@macaulay.cuny.edu.

   Advised a clientload of over 150 clients on immigration procedures including but not limited to naturalization, green card renewals, and U.S. passport applications and renewals- Liaised between clients and USCIS officers and helped to represent low-income, non-English speaking clients when interacting with bureaucractic officials- Conducted intake and screening processes for incoming clients- Developed internal resources for inter-organizational referral to best support extreme client cases and created proposals for extended programming- Represented AAFE when tabling and promoting free and low-income friendly services at local politicians\' and organizations\' events and assisted in event planning for organization events- Utilized English, Mandarin, and Chinese language skills to best communicate with a predominantly elderly, non-English-speaking clientele.
