About John Edwards

With over 20 years of experience as an Executive Director at Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) and Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC), I lead and implement successful strategies to provide exemplary career and leadership development initiatives for diverse and underserved populations. I have a Master of Public Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, as well as multiple honors from City & State for my influence and impact in the Bronx.My core competencies include social networking, diversity training, training and development, and employer relations. I work collaboratively with internal and external partners, such as academic and administrative deans, faculty, alumni, and job training providers, to refine and support career education, experiential learning, and placement strategies. I am passionate about increasing organizational effectiveness, staff performance, and quality of service, as well as creating and facilitating effective research-based training and career development programs. My mission is to empower and inspire individuals and communities to achieve their personal and professional goals.

   Plan, direct, and evaluate the operations of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Employment Center Work collaboratively with job training partner(s). Manage relationships with external partners Formulate, implement and review short and long-term program objectives, goals and plans Work with organizational leadership to create and implement training and placement programs in accordance with grant provisions Establish effective procedures to audit, monitor, and evaluate the Employment Center’s objectives as well as grant requirements Assist in the design and implementation of all workforce-related programs including training Supervise the Employment Center staff Provide for the hiring, assignment, training and evaluation of employees Keep updated on pertinent legislation, regulations, incentive programs, and developments that could affect operations and disseminate information to appropriate personnel Initiate and maintain ongoing personal contacts with a variety of employers (both inside and outside of the Yard) to identify placement and training opportunities Collect data from employers related to job orders including job requirements and skills
