About Johnson Ung
Hello! My name is Johnson, and thanks for visiting my LinkedIn page.I am an NCI F99/K00 postdoctoral research fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Davids at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where I study cell death signaling using a technique called dynamic BH3 profiling with the goal of identifying novel apoptotic susceptibilities in hematologic malignancies. I obtained my PhD from the University of Virginia School of Medicine under the mentorship of Dr. Thomas P. Loughran Jr, UVA Cancer Center Director. At UVA, I studied dysregulated ceramide metabolism in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) to improve our understanding of AML\'s pathogenesis. Ceramides are tumor suppressor sphingolipids, and their depletion is an emerging AML hallmark. I led multiple projects targeting acid ceramidase, a ceramide catabolizing enzyme, to eradicate AML and improve current frontline treatments. I aim to build a cancer research career in the fields of drug resistance, developmental therapeutics, and precision medicine whilst championing initiatives to support the next generation of cancer researchers.
