ABOUT MATT JOHNSON

Largely my background has been within Universities as a Consultant Timetabler, Resources Manager, Senior Administrator and Student Hub Team Leader attached to several Universities. I understand the nature of the competing and conflicting deadlines and priorities which may exist in a university environment, and how to communicate and negotiate appropriately and effectively. I have a wealth of knowledge and understanding of Higher Education. I am logical but also flexible and creative. I am quick to learn and IT literate. I\'ve never been afraid of change and challenge, having been a stay-at-home parent and having qualified as a Teacher during the Pandemic, for example. I can identify strengths and weaknesses and know how to plan for development based on this, and have a master’s degree in Professional Development. I can monitor, interpret and evaluate data and provide information from this. I am flexible, but firm in my opinion. I will influence a decision if I feel it necessary but am also open to ideas and thoughts. I am comfortable communicating with staff on any level. I am used to presenting information, whether in a classroom or to a much wider audience. I am organised and fully capable of prioritising and hitting deadlines. I am always learning, and trying to develop and evolve.I have worked in several Universities in various capacities, understanding and accounting for the lifecycles and adhering to deadlines. I have timetabled in 3 universities, all of whom switched systems during my tenure, experiencing systems including Syllabus+ and CMIS. I have overseen the annual life cycle of timetabling on many occasions.I have had responsibility for Academic boards, Enrolment, Assessment, Exams and a number of other tasks. I managed teams, helping them to plan, organise and prioritise their workloads, always to a high standard. I have been involved in the development and implication of policy through various working groups and am confident to use my extensive network of contacts to move forward. I have worked with a vast number of overseas students and in pastoral roles. I have been in primary school settings working with children with special needs and have developed my skills for communication of a different kind, with patience and understanding. Everyone is different, and though policy and procedure must be adhered to, this can look different depending on the individual or situation. The one thing that doesn\'t change is that if you want to have good relationships and be able to work together, you must be honest and be able to both speak and listen.
