About John Schmidt

John is a proven executive with over 9 years of military experience. He possesses a deep knowledge of defense industry technology, effective management processes, and business operations. John is a demonstrated leader with a strong track record of building highly effective teams that excel at solving complex problems and that are adept at implementing innovative strategies to fix them.He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2014 with a degree in economics. He then went on to serve six years as an active-duty Infantry Officer. His assignments include Mechanized Infantry Platoon Leader at Ft. Bliss, TX and Light Infantry Platoon Leader at Ft. Benning, Georgia, where he led a 40-person platoon in the U.S. Army Experimental Forces (EXFOR). This unit was closely aligned with the civilian led Maneuver Battle Lab (MBL) and was responsible for testing all new emerging technology for U.S. Army Futures Command prior to it being fielded to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. John went on to serve as a staff officer in the 10th Mountain Division as the lead planner for his unit’s deployment to the Middle East in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. He exited the Army at the rank of Captain in 2021.John relocated to Knoxville, Tennessee and founded Highland Point Consulting, LLC, a company that provides technical management services to government agencies, prime contractors, and other valued customers in the areas of data analytics, cyber security, information technology, engineering, and project/program management. As the owner and CEO, he serves as chief communicator and decision maker for the company. Together with trusted partners, he builds consensus across diverse groups and inspires team members through individual empowerment while managing multiple priorities across a wide range of areas. He is the chief leader responsible for building the company culture and he strives to create a team of independent thinkers and doers.
