About John S. Artz

As a Member of Dickinson Wright, I represent clients in intellectual property matters, including those involving patents, trademarks, trade secrets and copyrights. In my 20+ years as an intellectual property attorney, I have helped clients develop and implement intellectual property strategies on a world wide basis. I have significant experience helping clients protect valuable intellectual property rights by filing and prosecuting patent and trademark applications around the globe. I also counsel clients as to ways to minimize unwanted litigation costs by avoiding competitor\'s patent rights, including by working to design around those assets or through the negotation of licenses. When litigation is necessary or appropriate, I have sucessfully represented clients in intellectual property litigation matters in various Federal courts across the country and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s administrative tribunals. Representative clients include automotive suppliers, energy management compaines, gaming companies, industrial product manufacturers, and consumer products companies. Am admitted to practice and have appeared before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. Supreme Court, the Federal Court of Claims, the International Trade Commission, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 6th Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, and various other U.S. District Courts around the country.
