ABOUT JOHNNY WANG

I’m a problem solver at heart. I build engineering teams, fix broken hiring processes, and help people find roles that change their trajectory. Professionally I’m a technical recruiter and talent partner; personally I’m someone who enjoys connecting dots, pushing through challenges, and making an impact.A look back at the journey: My professional life actually began in the world of numbers at UofT during my BBA. I initially explored accounting, which gifted me with a sharp analytical eye and, more importantly, what real grind looks like during busy season. But I realized I wanted to make a more direct impact on people’s lives, which led me into sales and recruitment.I officially began my career at Motion Recruitment, building a book of business from scratch and partnering with everyone from early-stage founders to enterprise leaders. That experience pushed me out of my comfort zone constantly. It built grit, sharpened my ability to assess technical talent, and gave me a wide network across the engineering ecosystem.One of my clients later became Head of Talent at Lightci, an early-stage startup, and brought me on as the first recruiter. We were helping startups inject AI into their businesses, from education platforms to emerging AI products, and I hired the engineers who helped fuel that growth. It was a scrappy, roll up your sleeves environment with constant pivots. More recently, as eBay expanded their footprint in Toronto, they reached out to me to be their first recruiter in Canada. As a collector myself, it felt like a natural fit. Since then, I’ve been assembling software engineering teams across eBay Live and Buyer Experience in Canada and the U.S, partnering closely with leaders to hire high-caliber talent while keeping my foot on the pedal.At the core of it all, I enjoy solving hard problems, building strong teams, and forming collaborative partnerships. Outside of work I enjoy collecting, fishing, and I\'m a huge Toronto Ultra/KOI fan!
