About Johnny Holden
Over two decades of experience as a journalist, editor, and communications strategist for both public and private sector organizations. I have contributed stories and content for newspapers, websites, radio and television. My work has been published in the Irish Times, TechCrunch, Politico, Texas Tribune, The Week (India) etc. While working at UT Austin, I oversaw the PR and media relations for Dr John Goodenough, winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2019. This story reached over 4 billion unique views (UVPM) according to Cision generated metrics. My most recent position at the University of Texas, Research Communications Manager at the Office of the Vice President of Research, included editorial direction for three campus-wide, interdisciplinary research projects, establishing and maintaining relationships with public information officers across all disciplines, and identifying and producing content related to collaborative research at UT Austin. Prior to this I was Communications Strategist at the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (CSE), and a communications consultant for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC)- the nation’s leading academic supercomputer facility. I love what I do, principally because of the opportunities I get to meet with some of the brightest minds in the world today. Some of my more memorable interviewees include former U.S. President Barack Obama, former Irish Taoiseach (PM) Leo Varadkar, Senator Bernie Sanders, SpaceX Founder Elon Musk, evolutionary biologist and author Richard Dawkins, Nobel Prize winner and co discoverer of the structure of DNA, James Watson, Nobel Laureate and inventor of the lithium-ion battery, John Goodenough, Founder of Dell Computers, Michael S Dell, Jazz legend, Wayne Shorter, and Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac. I have always been fascinated by the intersections between historically-detached fields, STEM and the Arts being one example. My education - including a BA History, MA Politics, and MSc Science Communications - somewhat reflect this interest. However, formal education is no substitute for the lived experience, and becoming conscious of one\'s own biases. To that end, my education continues.
