ABOUT JOHNNY CARLOS RAMIREZ

My work centers on the connection between student success and wellness. My work cultivates positive outcomes for students of color, such as increased self-awareness, healing, a sense of belonging, and the development of leadership and activism skills.I am committed to student-centered, relationship-based, community-engaged, and culturally relevant pedagogical approaches. I use these approaches to support and empower students to express their intersectional identities, including bringing their stories, knowledge, and lived experiences to university spaces. I employ ethnic studies curricula, Indigenous-centered healing approaches, and Participatory Action Research (PAR) to foster critical dialogues and inclusive learning environments. I encourage students to challenge power relations in academic texts and reflect on the intentionality of creating spaces, projects, and mentoring relationships to increase students\' educational and wellness outcomes. Research Interests: Chicanx-Latinx Youth Resistance • Transformational Resistance • Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) • Critical Participatory Action Research (CPAR) • Latina/o Critical Theory/Critical Race Theory • Positive Youth Development Outcomes • Educational Historiography & Archival Research
