About John Mleziva
In the summer of 2012, I left my position at Edgewood College as the Assistant Director of Student Activities, to move to Edinburgh, Scotland, embarking on a journey that ended with my obtaining a Master of Science degree in Brewing and Distilling from Heriot-Watt University. How does someone who has spent the majority of his career working in Higher Education end up in Scotland studying brewing and distilling? By taking a chance on a dream and following my passion. Since returning to Madison in September of 2013, I’ve spent time working at a local distillery and building industry connections, writing a complete and comprehensive business plan, and most recently worked as the Internship Coordinator for Letters and Science Career Services at the University of Wisconsin-Madison — all while moving towards my ultimate goal of owning my own craft distillery. I believe in the importance of being authentic in what you do and say, and the value of putting in the time and effort to achieve success. I am excited to build in the best aspects of my career in higher education into the mission and values of my future business—commitment towards community engagement, social justice advocacy, and continuing to work with students through the creation of a summer internship program.
