My professional focus and passions are the repair, restoration, and design of building envelopes. Aspects of my services involve forensic investigations, condition assessments, wall and roof analysis, master planning, design, construction, and commissioning. I consider myself lucky to be working on buildings from the late 1800’s to current construction with project locations from coast to coast. My daily activities allow me to combine my love of history, architecture, and the outdoors. The overall goal with most of my projects is to provide a long-term repair that most people will never know was completed. To understand any problem, I feel you must go to it, and I genuinely love getting on the side of a building or climbing up on a roof. The work is never redundant, and I find myself constantly researching and learning about different buildings and systems. While most people think of architecture as drawings and calculations, I have found this to be an industry of people and relationships. I am lucky that much of my work occurs with specialty restoration contractors and facility managers. Within this small world, I have collaborated with contractors and owners for more than 20 years, watching friends’ careers parallel my own. THP has been my home for over 25 years. l attribute much of my success to my early and current mentors, who encouraged and supported my exploration of new projects and challenges. As I have transitioned from a project architect to a building envelope principal, I have found myself enjoying the role of mentor and watching the next generation of architects and engineers develop a passion for building restoration and repair. My family is at the core of my success. I met my wife in architecture school, and the kids know many of our vacations will include a stopover or tour of a building. With three children, much of our daily life revolves around sports, scouts, and church, so my life is always in motion.
