WORK HISTORY
Data and Reporting Engineer @State of Wisconsin Investment Board
Madison, WI, US
Collaborate with all divisions within an agency that manages around $140B of assets to develop reports that provide business insights & analysis, particularly for investment holdings, risk, and performance (SimCorp, FactSet, Eagle PACE, and other systems). The role typically requires elements of each of the following areas, delivered using a lightweight version of Agile:• Business Analysis – Interface with the requesting team to understand the purpose of the report, help prioritize features to be developed based on feasibility/value/effort, and estimate a timeline for delivery.• Data Sourcing – Interface with the Data Management teams to map data requirements to existing sources or create new data sources. Where possible, implement ETL or business logic in the upstream data source rather than within the report. If necessary, perform ETL in Power Query or Dataflows as a proof of concept or interim solution. Primary data sources include many different databases housed on Snowflake, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL.• Report Development – Use Microsoft Power BI to develop the report using Power Query or DAX. Utilize Power BI best practices when developing reports aiming for simplicity, reuse, and extensibility. After approximately 2 weeks of development & testing, perform a Sprint Review with the agency representatives and release the newly developed features.• Automation – Leverage Microsoft Power Automate or Python scripts to automate various repeatable processes including user notifications, trigger-based report refreshes, or other regular report updates.• Low-Code/No-Code Development – Piloted Microsoft Power Apps as development platform to quickly deliver user interfaces to allow the business to insert/update data or kick off processes.

ABOUT JOHN LIBER
OpenToWork (but please give me a month to catch my breath!) This change is part of a plan that has been a long time in the making. I\'ll soon be starting a new chapter, doing some combination of independent contracting and part-time work. The shift will also allow me to allocate more time to my many other interests & hobbies. I\'m still finishing up the transition of my SWIB role, and after that I\'ll need a bit of time to do the initial setup (registering a business, connect with other contracting firms, etc.). In the meantime, I\'d certainly welcome conversations with anyone who has suggestions or knows of businesses of any size that might benefit from my areas of expertise. I’m guessing my reputation is more important than having a fully-polished business website to get conversations started, but here’s a placeholder site that I’ll keep building upon: https://johnliber.com I truly appreciate all the support and well wishes!
