About John L Bowman

John serves as Chief Executive Officer of the CAIA Association and as a member of the Board of Directors where his ambition is to build the most energized community of investment professionals around the globe devoted to improving investment outcomes. As asset classes continue to both blur and converge, what was once alternative, is now mainstream. CAIA envisions a future where they are the go-to, trusted authority for evaluating and integrating formative strategies and modern capital allocation techniques, enabling today’s practitioner to see around the corner on behalf of their clients. While the heartbeat of their work is in delivering world class education, they are first a professional body that leads, shapes, and challenges the global industry.John previously served as Managing Director for the Americas for CFA Institute, a region comprised of 40+ countries from Canada, the U.S, Central America, South America and the Caribbean with a budget of more than $140m. Earlier in his career, John was a portfolio manager for over $2B of non-US EAFE strategies at both The Boston Company and SSgA.John is a prolific speaker, writer and commentator around the world, frequently keynoting industry events and publishing in various investment and business publications, including his own podcast Capital Decanted. He serves on various boards and investment committees including Verger Capital Management, University of Mary Washington, and Young Investors Society.John’s proudest and most important roles, however, are that of husband, father of six, and Papa John to one…so far. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, reading, Boston and UVA sports, and a great glass of red wine…decanted, of course.
