The Eminent Scholars Archive was developed by Lesley Dingle and Daniel Bates to document the careers and achievements of eminent scholars associated with the Faculty of Law at the University of Cambridge. The archive includes biographies, bibliographies, photographs, recorded interviews and various other resources. The first series of interviews will be with Professor Campbell McLachlan.

ABOUT JOHN J. MAGYAR
BA (Philosophy), JD, LLM, PhD (Cantab), Barrister & Solicitor (Law Society of Ontario, currently non-practicing). I am a statutory interpretation specialist with an understanding of modern legal history, particularly with respect to the solicitors\' profession. My published research to date has concerned the use of legislative history as an interpretive aid in Canada, the UK and other common law jurisdictions. My PhD research examined the history and geographical extent of textualism, the most influential doctrine of statutory and constitutional interpretation in the United States today. I am currently writing a book under contract documenting the history of one of the City of London\'s oldest solicitors firms, Travers Smith LLP. Although neither the largest, nor the biggest earning firm in London, Travers Smith has dealt with some of the most important institutions and largest financial transactions in the world in its various iterations over the years. Meanwhile, on an efficiency basis, Travers Smith LLP is among the most profitable of the City firms. This book will help the firm and the legal community to better understand the significance of their activities. It will also reveal how solicitors firms in the City of London have continued to be successful over time despite significant political, social, and economic change.
