About John Whelan

I\'m an investor who\'s spent the last eight years financing energy transition and climate solutions, from distributed generation to utility-scale infrastructure across the US, sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. I\'ve built a career deploying pragmatic capital in complex environments, from emerging markets to under-invested sectors, backing businesses as they grow into better versions of themselves. I\'m drawn to climate work because I like hard, meaningful problems. Prior to my work in private equity and private credit, I spent several years helping startups scale, living through most of the startup lifecycle across a range of roles, from early-stage fundraising and product development to growth, exits, and wind-downs. My curiosity and love of steep learning curves has served me well across all these contexts.
