About John Tang

Math was my first love. I discovered math as a kid. I went on to study Math Applied Science at UCLA. I was in the actuarial program. I passed two actuarial credential exams while still an undergraduate. Things went awry, however, after an internship at Transamerica. I was assigned to the Guaranteed Investment Contract (GIC) department. My work was devoid of the actuarial modeling that I loved. The job used Excel models that someone developed. There wasn’t a lot of math involved in day to day activity. I was crushed. At the suggestion of my college roommate I decided to go into computing which was my second love. I’ve been programming since the eighth grade. Working as a full stack web developer allows me to use my problem-solving abilities. My love for math, however, is still there. It would be nice to be able to apply hard core math models with programming. Perhaps machine learning or block chain will provide that opportunity.
