About John McDonough
McDonough joined Centennial American Properties in September of 2023.Prior to working at Centennial American Properties, McDonough served as City Manager of Greenville, SC. During his tenure, Greenville saw the completion and opening of the $60 million Unity Park; the development of a new economic development brand, “From Here You Can Change the World”; Approval of County Square Redevelopment, a $1 billion mixed-use project; completion of a new section of the Swamp Rabbit Trail, and passage of a $36 million, Neighborhood Infrastructure Bond, to repair roads, build new sidewalks, and renovate parks and recreation centers. Prior to being selected as Greenville’s city manager, he served for more than 13 years as city manager of Sandy Springs, Georgia, the second largest city in metro-Atlanta with a population of McDonough was hired as Sandy Springs first City Manager and had the unique opportunity of starting a new city. During his tenure he led the efforts to start the police and fire departments, establish a 4-city E-911 system, and establish a new multi-city radio system. He also led the efforts to establish a state-of-the-art Traffic Management Center. During his tenure, Sandy Springs was widely recognized as a leader in the utilization of Public-Private Partnerships, and McDonough served as the City’s Project Manager on the $300+ million City Springs Development, which includes a performing arts center, black box theater, full-service bar, conference center, city hall, multi-family residences, retail shops and restaurants. He also led the effort to plan and construct several award-winning parks including Overlook Park, Abernathy Greenway Park, Marsh Creek Rain Garden and Lost Corner Preserve. During his tenure he was responsible for the planning and delivery of more than $500 million in capital projects.Prior to serving in Sandy Springs, he served as city manager of Beaufort, SC. McDonough is a retired Colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, and he holds a bachelor’s degree from the Citadel and a master’s degree from Indiana University. While city manager in Greenville, he served on the Board of Advisors for the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, and Board of Director\'s for NEXT, The Peace Center, and Visit Greenville. He is past president of the Georgia City County Manager’s Association.
