ABOUT JOHNEW ZHANG
I am an investor with deep domain expertise in financial institutions (FIG) and credit, built on a foundation in mathematics, actuarial science, and financial economics. At CPP Investments, I invested across sub-investment-grade private credit (corporate, asset-based, and special situations), credit-like equities and credit funds, while also contributing to data-driven initiatives and fintech growth equity opportunities. Today, I apply this background to long/short equity financials.My career began in actuarial science and quantitative research, where I developed models for risk, pricing, and portfolio construction. I further strengthened this expertise through Columbia’s MS in Financial Economics, a highly selective program blending PhD-level coursework in finance, economics, and machine learning. This training informs how I approach investing: combining bottom-up diligence, engineered alpha through finance and contract theory, and quantitative rigor to identify opportunities across FIG and credit markets.I am passionate about bridging traditional finance with innovation — whether through structured lending, alternative credit, or deep-research public markets strategies.
