I know firsthand that being audited by a team of accountants can be an unfamiliar, nerve wracking, and downright scary event in the life of an environmental remediation project manager or engineer. At KPMG, I specialize in making the audit less intimidating by bridging the processes, terminology, and regulatory requirements of the accounting and environmental domains. I educate our clients’ environmental staff and consultants in the financial auditing process and what to expect from the audit team (myself included). On the flip side, I help KPMG’s accountants understand the regulatory processes and lifecycle for investigating and remediating contaminated sites, the inherent uncertainties in remediating subsurface contamination, and the impacts those uncertainties can have on cost estimates. When I’m not engaged in an audit, I provide our non-audit clients with “audit-readiness” support and assessments of their Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) programs and external reporting.Prior to entering the financial auditing world, I was an environmental consultant for several engineering firms. My environmental consulting experience encompassed permitting, compliance auditing, pollution prevention, waste minimization, remediation of contaminated sites, and facility decommissioning. In remediation, my expertise encompasses all lifecycle stages of contaminated site investigation and cleanup under the CERCLA/Superfund removal and remedial programs (and state equivalent programs), RCRA corrective action program, and voluntary cleanup programs.
