About John B. Jamison

John Jamison, award-winning author, speaker, and educator is a life-long believer in the power of stories. Throughout his varied career,\"story\" has played a critical role in his work and has remained a passion throughout his life.John spent twenty years as a pastor before moving to higher education. “As a pastor,” John explains, “I spent most of my time helping people learn to cope with major changes in their lives. I found myself doing exactly the same thing with instructors and students who were trying to deal with the changes taking place in education because of technology, games, and other things. In both situations, I found the power of story to be a great tool to help people learn to create new life-stories.”About learning, John says, “When a story-driven, experience-based activity draws the learner in, good things happen and the usual distractions disappear. The idea is not to just create games or give \"badges\", but to create story-driven, experience-based learning activities that make sense in the world of the learner, and have direct and immediate impact in the life-story of that learner.”John still uses the \"power of story\" to help clients rethink learning and training, marketing, and deal with the constant stream of changes taking place. John also speaks to groups, large and small, using the power of story to entertain, inform, or just spark a few ideas.About his writing, John says,\"My goal is not just to write a story, but to create an emotional experience that will grab hold of my reader, and not let them go until two weeks after the story ends.\"John grew up in a family of riverboat captains, railroaders, fishermen, painters, photographers, and writers, so storytelling is in his genes. John and his wife Pat live in Central Illinois, just down the road from the farm home of their daughter and son-in-law. Most importantly, John is the proud grandpa of Benjamin William and Emily Grace, the future rulers of the real and virtual universes, and great storytellers in their own right.

   Helping doctoral learners keep on track with their dissertation development through weekly conversations to clarify goals (and politely be a pain in the rear) to keep the writing going. This same process is used for masters\' theses as well as a wide range of projects that would benefit from that \"outside ear\" and extra bit of \"encouragement\".
