ABOUT JOHNATHAN REYNOLDS

I help places, programmes and partnerships turn energy transition and major infrastructure into investable propositions, delivery programmes, skills pipelines and measurable regional impact. I’m Group Managing Director of Opergy, working across the UK (and selectively internationally) with public and private sector leaders on offshore wind, nuclear, hydrogen, grid and industrial decarbonisation – and the “system conditions” that enable growth (investment, land/consents, supply chain readiness, skills, and local confidence).Significant board-level experience as Chair, Director, Trustee and advisor. Co-founder, Hydrogen East. My work spans:– Major infrastructure & energy programmes – including support to Sizewell C on regional development and workforce planning, and programmes such as STEP Fusion and associated supply chain/skills pipelines.– Cluster development & place-based growth – shaping propositions and delivery plans for regional and pan-regional partnerships (e.g. Net Zero North West and other collaborations).– Policy-to-delivery support – advising organisations, partnerships and taskforces to align local priorities with national policy and funding (e.g. energy security and investment readiness, incl. the Midlands Energy Security Taskforce).– Offshore wind growth & competitiveness – supporting businesses, ports and manufacturers to diversify and grow (incl. RenewableUK and OWIC workstreams).– Hydrogen & industrial decarbonisation – developing credible hydrogen ecosystems and demand pathways for clusters and high-energy users.– Economic evidence & impact – delivering independent impact studies and translating them into interventions for jobs, skills and investment.– Decarbonisation pathways for communities and businesses – practical approaches to high-energy users, local energy systems and community-led change. Earlier in my career, I led strategy and business development for OrbisEnergy (Lowestoft) during its formative decade, helping to establish a nationally significant offshore renewables cluster. During that period, I supported 180+ tenant businesses, contributed to 1,200+ jobs, and helped catalyse £7bn+ of regional investment outcomes. In 2019, I led a management buyout to establish Opergy, which has since expanded across the UK and internationally.I’m most useful where ambition needs to become delivery: clear choices, strong partnerships, robust evidence, and real-world implementation.
