About John Angelo
An American designer, most notable as the founding designer of YouTube TV, the Pixel Watch 1-3 / Wear OS 2-6, Google Glass, the modern video player of YouTube, YouTube Content ID, Facebook News, Roblox, and various other efforts. Before moving over to core Google, I devised the idea and conceptualized YouTube TV, a product that now grosses over $7 billion/yr and was the architect of YouTube Content ID which generates over $9 billion/yr in distribution. His work has led to 2 IFA awards, an Academy Award, an Emmy Award and other honors.I\'ve led and participated in volunteer community outreach efforts, founded Google ERG initiatives, guest lectured at UC Berkeley, and done campaign media/design work for the Clinton and Obama campaigns. My design philosophy is a blend of viewpoints I adopted growing up in African, Japanese, and Italian culture centered around miyabi/sprezzatura (elegant refinement), kubuni/shizen/fukinsei (naturalism), fractal forms, kanso/yugen/ma (minimalism), uhalisi (authenticity), chiaroscuro (strong contrast), afrofuturism and contextuality. I craft hands-on designs that create easy enjoyable experiences and those that blend into the inherent form of nature and rhythm of life. Instead of inverting behaviors, I try to complement existing behavioral intents but speed them up to allow for more time spent enjoyable life outputs.
