ABOUT JOHN WALKER
I am passionate about the operation of markets and in particular to the vibrancy and colour they bring to our towns, whilst aiding regeneration and creating employment opportunities.I am responsible for the Councils Markets portfolio which operates 28 market days each week, from 9 venues and 6 districts along with another 100 ad hoc events based around local produce and local food production, providing over 650 stall letting opportunities each week. I actively engage with many local partner organisations and local communities to deliver markets throughout the Borough of Calderdale. More recently we have engaged with several schools to encourage the use of markets in the national curriculum, based around business and enterprise, schools farmers markets, site visits, history, culture and social cohesion along with assisting in numeracy, english, design and marketing skills.I have spent my entire career with my hometown Authority and are proud to be only the third Market Manager since the formation of Calderale Council; and in turn I have had the pleasure of working from two of Halifax\'s most prestigious buildings in the Piece Hall and the splendid Victorian Halifax Borough Market along with long standing markets in the districts of Todmorden, Hebden Bridge, Sowerby Bridge and Elland.
